This is a masterful celebration of Chardonnay, ultra fresh and characterful.LIn Piedmont at the foot of the Italian Alps fine wines and local foods (truffles and game especially) go hand in hand. The best reds are based on either Nebbiolo or, in the case of this wine from Claudio Manera, the mocha and plum rich Barbera grape

The Wine
One of the most enthusiastic winemOne of the most enthusiastic winemakers you'll ever meet, Bruce Jack studied his craft at South Australia's famous Roseworthy College, then perfected his skills at iconic Aussie wineries Grant Burge and Simon Hackett and also in Bordeaux. He has a real passion that shines through in every wine he makes. His cellar, based in a former dynamite factory just 400 metres from the sea, scooped 'Winery of the Year' in 2008, and is designed so all liquid is moved by gravity - it's eco-friendly and gentle on the wine. Speaking of which, occasionally Bruce can be heard having a quiet word with his vats of Chardonnay to encourage their fermentation. Whatever your view on this, Whispering Jack makes a great partner with salmon or lighter chicken dishes. One of the most enthusiastic winemakers you'll ever meet, Bruce Jack studied his craft at South Australia's famous Roseworthy College, then perfected his skills at iconic Aussie wineries Grant Burge and Simon Hackett and also in Bordeaux. The wine comes from Castel Boglione, the only town in the area built on the valley floor. Once surrounded by thick woodland, and often covered in thick fog, the town had a reputation as a place full of bandits and thieves. Today its reputation is based solely on quality wines. Talented oenologist Claudio Manera heads up the winemaking team at Araldica and selects grapes from vineyards across the Montferrato hills. The cellar specialises in Moscato and Barbera wines, for which they've won many awards. The 2014 has silky tannins, plum and liquorice scented fruit and raspberry freshness. Sensational with local dishes like pasta in duck ragù.
