The Wine
Patience is a virtue. That old adage was never truer than in 2013 in Burgundy, where the best wines come from the producers who waited and waited until grapes hit optimum ripeness. For many, it was the latest harvest in living memory and favoured producers with their own vineyards - like Albert Bichot. Founded in 1831, and now run by the sixth generation of the family, they have prime spots on southeast facing Les Charmes and timed their harvest to perfection. The limestone soil here and the particular Chardonnay clone planted influences the style of the wine, giving a lovely mineral freshness to the ripe stone fruit. This supple Burgundy is perfect to drink now, yet will improve with a year's age. Serve cool with creamy white meat dishes.
